The Zendesk Web Widget API does not currently have support for hiding and showing the widget on the page. One work around to this may be setting the zIndex to move the widget behind or in front of other content on the page. Here's a link to the documentation for further info:

The Zendesk Web Widget is relatively new so keep an eye out for future updates which may introduce the functionality you're looking for.
