Hello, is there any way to get the file contents of an "Article Attachment", rather than just a URL (which is authentication protected) over the API?

Hi Dan, thanks for the question! The URL is the only available option to download the attachment files at this time. If you have a suggestion for some other methods though, please let me know what you'd like to see and I can pass this along to our product team!
