"Your name" field in widget changed to "Your name (optional)"

Hi,

We noticed that the name field in web widget's "leave a message" support form has changed to "Your name (optional)". Is there a way to get rid of the "optional" in brackets? We are requiring end-users to add their name (actually it is pre-populated for them), thus the "optional" is a bit confusing for them.

Anything we can do? Thanks in advance!

Hi there Matti-Esko,

Can you check that the 'Require Identity' checkbox in the Chat widget settings is checked? Once checked, the optional string should go away.

Thanks,

Ramin

Hi Ramin,

Yes, this is checked:

And to add, this issue is not concerning chat (we have authentication in chat adding the name + e-mail of end-users), but in the ”leave a message” form in our web widget. For some reason, the text “optional” appeared this / last week to the widget, without any intentional configuration changes.

Got it, so its related to the ticket form and not Chat. I have asked the Web Widget team to investigate and get back to you.

Hi Matti-Esko, this change came about as part of a release to improve accessibility.  Marking fields as "Optional" is preferred for visually impaired users compared to the previous implementation, where fields were marked as required using an asterisk "*". Currently, there isn't technically a way today to make it required, so the name field is optional, even if it is pre-filled. That said, we are working on improving our APIs to provide a way to set name in a read-only format - i.e. non-editable and non-optional, in addition to a simple pre-fill option.

Hi Daniel,

Any update on the timeline for the having the possibility to have the name + e-mail as read only in the widget's support form?

Thanks!

Matti-Esko

Hi Matti-Esko, the prefill API allows you to define if name and email are read-only. Let me know if this meets your needs.
