Widget Chat is being Blocked by Ad blocker

Hi there,

Our chat is online, but it's systematically blocked by Ad blockers of our visitors. So we can't get any information from those users, and we can't interact with them thru triggers. We only see few visitors out of the mass.

After few test on my behalf, it seems that our concurrent's widget is not being blocked from Ad blocker. Is there anything we can do to go around the ad blocker ?

Thanks for your support,

Gilles

Hi Gilles,

Unfortunately, different ad blockers have different default policies and subscribe to different lists and there is not much we can do to fight them. Ad blocking from browsers themselves (ex. Firefox, Chrome) should not interfere with the widgets.

Hi Ramin, that makes sense.

I have come across the same problem, where a customer using "Adblockplus" was able to view our widget and initiate a chat, but they could not see their own messages after sending them, and could not see my replies.

Would there be an option to integrate some kind of sensor into the widget that can detect if a user is using an ad blocker or similar program, and perhaps provide a banner advising chats will not be visible whilst their ad blocker is active?

Hi Rhi,

I just tested Adblock Plus and the widget is working fine with the default settings, it may be they turned on additional lists on that block the widget or explicitly choose to block the widget.

Currently, we have no plans to add detection of ad blocking into the widget because it will be hard to maintain and will be a game of cat and mouse. If this is a requirement, you can build custom code on your website to try and detect the use of an ad blocker and then hide/not execute the widget code for those specific visitors.
