I'm trying to create groups (different than "topics") for specific like-minded individuals within our community. Similar to creating a slack channel. I would also like the ability to make some of those groups private so only certain community members can access them.
I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this, or if Gather even offers this. Does anybody have any insight into this? Thanks!

Thanks for writing in! Upon checking, creating a private group in Gather seems not available at the moment. However, the nearest restriction feature for the community is through user segments and hopefully you may consider using this feature - Applying user segments to restrict viewing access to community content.

Has this changed? Does Gather now have the ability to create private groups? We support other institutions and would like to use this group to communicate exclusively with admins of the institutions. Thank you.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you're looking for the User Segments functionality.
I've linked the documentation that explains this in more detail but you should be able to create a user segment that's limited to specific users with a certain tag or organization.
